The Desai Initiative for Agricultural Education (GIZ – DIAE) launched together with the federally owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, which supports the German Government in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. It is an initiative to educate and train farmers under the PPP mode, combining the business interests of companies with the development goals of the German government in a way that both partners reach their objectives faster, cheaper and more efficiently.
DFV has recently acquired 166 acres of land at Dabhoi, Gujarat to produce 3,500 tonnes of world-class produce, backed by integrated management and ICT systems, ensuring the best variety product to its customers, from the farm to the fork.
DFV is also in advanced stages of negotiations for large parcels in Maharashtra & Tamil Nadu.
Education plays an integral role in the sustainability of Partnership Farming which is a key role for the DIAE. The most innovative aspect of Partnership Farming is that it is not commodity specific, enabling farmers to be self-sufficient decision-makers which allows for a flexible production system, establishing long term and trust-based business partnerships. Partnership Farming allows small scale production linkage with large scale processing and the expansion of training and education measures to agricultural laborers as well.
The main objective of Partnership Farming India is that Farmers and farm workers in the Indian states of Gujarat and Maharashtra have access to practical agricultural education and to sustainable and professional agricultural concepts that are in line with international standards.
Pilot launched with two modules (Basic agricultural education & banana education); Training & education play a key role in sustainability of contract farming – key role of DIAE. (? Needs expansion)
